Our first bout of 2014, against Rainy City Roller Girls and sponsored by Maxïmo Park, was one of our most exciting events to date and a great start to the year. First it was B team against B team – a rematch between our Whippin’ Hinnies and the Tender Hooligans with a predicted score of 150-180 with the Hooligans taking the win. The Hinnies, cheered on by one of our loudest audiences to date, turned the prediction on its head and took the win by an impressive 255-144! Possibly the most exciting announcement we’ve ever had at NRG headquarters – our bout this weekend (Saturday February 8th) has been sponsored by our favourite band, Maxïmo Park! We were featured in both The Journal and The Chronicle today, if you didn’t manage to pick up a copy you can check out both great articles online here and here. The ‘Park have been supporters of our league and north east roller derby for many years now so we’re ecstatic to work with them on promoting our event and their brand new album Too Much Information. You can get your discounted advance tickets for our double header against Rainy City Roller Girls right here, and the album is available in all the usual internet and real life shops from today. Oh, and keep your eyes on our Facebook if you’re a Maxïmo Park fan, you’ll soon see why…

In their first ever bout outside the UK, our B team The Whippin’ Hinnies travelled to the Netherlands to take on Eindhoven’s Rock City Rollers, and took the win after a dramatic final jam at 183-182! Thank you to everyone who helped in the Hinnies’ fundraising drive to get them to the bout and safely back home to Newcastle.
